Lightning Airfare Pricing FAQs

FAQs

1. Why are the fares in Lightning more expensive?

The fare you initially see in your Lightning shopping cart may appear higher because Lightning prices your outbound and return flights as two separate one-way fares during the shopping process. This may not be your final airfare.

When you click Continue and proceed to the Review and Reserve page, Lightning automatically reprices your selected flights as a roundtrip. If a lower roundtrip fare is available, Lightning will display a “We found a lower fare!” notification and update your itinerary with the lower fare.

Important: If your cart total seems higher than expected, continue to the Review and Reserve page before changing your flight selections.

2. Why does Lightning initially price my trip as two one-way fares?

Pricing each direction separately gives travelers greater flexibility to mix and match airlines, flight schedules, and fare types. After you select the flights that work best for your trip, Lightning checks whether they can be combined to yield a lower round-trip fare.

3. Do I need to do anything to have Lightning check for a lower fare?

No. The repricing happens automatically when you proceed to the Review and Reserve page. You will have an opportunity to review the updated fare before completing your reservation.

4. How do I get a quick estimate of my flight's cost?

Within the CTP Portal, the Fare Forecaster provides travelers with an estimate of the lowest available round-trip fare.
